Becoming an operator

What qualifies, what it actually involves, and how enrolment will work when it opens.

You cannot enrol today, and nothing on this page asks you to.

There is no operator sign-up, no software to install and no payments system. What follows is the honest shape of the thing: what your hardware would need, what the work would actually be like, and what you can usefully check right now so that you already know your answer when it does open.

If a page like this reads as though everything is ready, it is selling you something. This one is not.

What an operator actually does

A customer has a piece of work to run and wants proof about the machine it runs on — that it is genuine hardware, that it booted software the manufacturer signed, that it is the specific device it claims to be. Most computers cannot prove any of that. Some can, because the manufacturer built a small security chip into them that signs statements about the machine it lives in.

If you own one of those machines, you can let it take that work when it is otherwise idle. Your device proves what it is, we check that proof against the manufacturer’s own root of trust, and if a customer’s requirements match, their job runs on your hardware and you are paid for the time it spends running.

That is the whole idea. There is no currency, no token and no wallet. It is an ordinary arrangement paid in ordinary money.

The important thing to be clear about before anything else: somebody else’s program runs on your device. Not their files, not their account — their code. That is the deal, and if it is not one you want, the rest of this page will not change that.

First question

Does your hardware qualify?

You can answer this yourself in about two minutes, today, without installing anything. Find your tier below and run the check.

An Android phone or tablet

Open Settings, then About phone. On Samsung devices, look inside Software information. Write down three things:

  • Android version
  • Android security update — the date
  • Model number, exactly as shown

Android 12 or newer with a security patch from the last year is the general shape of what passes. Whether your particular model has the stronger kind of security chip depends on the model itself, not on any setting you can change, so the model number is the part that actually decides it.

A Windows PC or laptop

Hold the Windows key and press R. Type tpm.msc and press Enter. A window opens describing the security chip in the machine.

  • Status should read The TPM is ready for use
  • Under manufacturer information, Specification Version must be 2.0

If it instead says a compatible TPM cannot be found, the machine either has no security chip or it is switched off in firmware. Version 1.2 does not qualify; it cannot produce the kind of evidence we check.

This tells you about the hardware, not about Windows. We will not offer a Windows operator tier. By the time you reach the login screen the security chip has measured Windows rather than our software, and you are an administrator on your own machine — so “this platform is measured” would not mean what a customer would reasonably take it to mean. The same computer running Linux is a different answer, and that is the one worth checking.

A Linux machine

Open a terminal and run:

cat /sys/class/tpm/tpm0/tpm_version_major

If it prints 2, the machine has a TPM 2.0. If the file does not exist, it does not — or the kernel cannot see it.

A machine with encrypted memory

The highest tier needs a processor feature that keeps a workload’s memory encrypted from the machine’s own administrator — AMD SEV-SNP or Intel TDX. On Linux:

lscpu | grep -i -E "sev|tdx"

Almost nobody has this at home. It is a server processor feature, and if you are unsure whether you have it, you do not.

None of these checks send us anything. They tell you what you have, which is the only thing you need before deciding whether to read further.

Second question

What it pays, without the flattering version

A phone doing this constantly earns its operator about ten dollars a month, and constantly is not something we can promise. A desktop earns more and costs more to run. The full rate card, the earnings at each level of use, and the share we keep are all published.

We would rather you did that arithmetic before you get attached to the idea than afterwards. The short version: this is worth doing with hardware you already own and would otherwise leave idle. It is not worth buying hardware for, and we will not pretend otherwise to grow faster.

One more number, here rather than buried in a payments page nobody reads: earnings accumulate to twenty-five dollars before a payment is sent. Moving money costs a fixed amount per transfer, and paying out three dollars would hand most of it to the processor. At the rates above that means one phone reaches a payable balance a few times a year, not every month. If being paid monthly matters to you, this is not the right arrangement and we would rather you knew that today.

Third question

What running a node is actually like

What you provideWhat that means in practice
PowerThe device stays on. Work out your own cost: watts multiplied by 0.73 gives kilowatt-hours per month. A phone at five watts is under fifty cents. A desktop pulling a hundred and fifty watts is over ten dollars, which is a real share of what that machine earns.
NetworkA normal home connection is enough. Jobs and their results move over it, so a connection with a hard data cap is a poor fit.
UptimeNothing is required of you, but you are paid for time spent running billable work. A device that is frequently offline is passed over, and passed-over devices earn nothing.
WearSustained load means heat, and on a phone, heat and a permanently connected charger both age the battery. A device kept busy will not last as long as one in a drawer.
AttentionVery little once running, but you are an independent operator, not an employee. Earnings are before tax and how you account for them is yours to handle.

What you would and would not be agreeing to

You would be agreeing to

Someone else’s code running on your hardware, for a customer you will not be told the identity of. Your device proving what it is — its identity and its boot state — to us and, through a signed record, to that customer.

Software with privileged access to your machine’s security chip. Proving a device’s identity is not something an ordinary unprivileged program is allowed to ask a security chip to do, on any operating system, so the node software runs as a system service. We would rather you knew that before installing anything than met it as a prompt.

You would not be agreeing to

Handing over your files, your photos, your messages or your accounts. We do not ask for them and the evidence a device produces does not contain them. What is checked is the machine, not what is on it.

On the mobile tier the work runs in the ordinary operating system alongside everything else on the device, which is exactly why that tier is priced lowest and described plainly on the pricing page. We tell customers the same thing about your position: on a measured host, you administer the machine their job runs on.

When it opens

How enrolment is intended to work

This is the design, not a description of working software. The parts marked unbuilt are unbuilt.

    You tell us what you have

    Model, operating system version, and how many devices. This is the part you can do today, by email.

  2. 02

    We tell you what it would qualify as

    Which tier, or that it does not qualify, and why. A straight answer either way. Some devices will not qualify and we would rather say so early than waste your time.

  3. 03

    You install the operator software

    Not yet built and not yet available. When it exists it will be published openly, and what it does on your device will be documented before we ask anyone to run it. It runs as a system service, because asking the security chip to prove its identity needs privileged access to the TPM device.

  4. 04

    Your device proves it is itself

    The security chip answers a challenge that can only be answered by the chip holding the right key. This is the step that makes the whole arrangement mean anything. As of 14 September 2026 it works: we have run it against a real TPM, recovered the secret, and confirmed the chip refuses a challenge built for a different key. It is not yet wired into an enrolment you can use.

  5. 05

    Work arrives, and you are paid for it

    Per second of completed work, after a sixty second minimum. There is no payments system yet.

What you can actually do today.

Run the check for your hardware above and keep the answer. If it qualifies, write to us with the model and the version and we will tell you which tier it would fall into and what we would still need to verify. That is genuinely all there is right now, and we would rather have a short honest list of people who know what they are waiting for than a long one that does not.
